Still Calm

It is still calm. I have nothing to say. No blood and guts. No near death scenes. Just fairly normal. It seems my ultimatum did some good but this will not last. We are talking about me moving into the main bedroom as a bolt hole so when the next binge does take place I can keep out of the way and live my life fairly normally while the storm blows over!

    You know I've been reading your posts for a while. Ending then with 'but it will not last' sounds like something *you* may want to check out. You say it *a lot*. And for a gal to go that long is great, not oh here she comes again, although it may add entertainment value, but that is not what ya'll r about.

    So, let's root for Jane, yay, it's been a long time (although keep it here since it seems to work for her what she's doing)! And for you, maybe a more optimistic attitude!! YAAY!!!

    So very nice to meet you Michael! I'm surprised you've gone public..but it's nice to know the real person behind the blog.

    It's so wonderful Jane has gone this long. You must be very happy. Y'know I would prefer this blog to end if it meant you both were happy and healthy.

    Hi guys, I just deleted 2 comments because inadvertently my picture accompanied them! Thanks for the comments. I am trying to be optimistic but the position is fragile because realistically Jane could start a binge at any time.

    Hi Linda, I actually went down to the G20 demonstrations to protest at the Bank of England! Anyway, Obama and Brown are all over the news here. Bold promises of fighting the recession. Lets see and get over the debt.

    hey, I hope you're ok. I'm like kind of a 'binge' drinker but mine are like fri, sat and the worst is 4-8 drinks a night. Gets worse? I believe it. My tolerance is increasing but i cut myself off. I don't think Jane's case is not un-achievable for me. in enough time i could get there. hope not though. Thank for the opener.

    Hi, Guys and Girls. Thanks for your interest and concern. It is appreciated. I have stopped for a while for two major reasons. One, things are more stable here so there is less to report and second I have a more important website that I need to constantly work on leaving little time for this blog.

    Jane is OK. At the moment no binges just some drinking after work that is more manageable.

    I'll leave the blog open but it will gradually fade unless it is fed posts! But I have to accept that. I may come back to it in due course. It just depends.

Alcoholism and Death

Just after Jane's mini-binge (believe me it was a very minor binge by her standards) of about 20 hours she felt, as usual, suicidal. Jane always feels huge remorse and regret after a binge. She feels bad about letting herself down and bad about messing me around (although it wasn't that bad to be honest - it did though mess up what could have been some time together, which we are lacking at the moment due to work). Jane really does genuinely feel suicidal after a binge. But I must say I don't think she'll ever do it. She hasn't got the courage - I know that sounds horrendously cruel etc etc but this blog is about the plain truth unvarnished. It takes courage to kill yourself and a lots of despair. Alcoholism is a Disease

1904 Advertisement I have always wondered if alcoholism is a disease . Is this just some sort of idea someone dreamed up years ago as a method to make a buck. You know it could have been that way. People think diseases are either curable or that the symptoms can be controlled to an extent where the person can live pretty normally. The signal sent to alcoholics by the idea that alcoholism is a disease is, "I can be cured by a pill" or "there is hope". And they go off and search for a cure to this mysterious disease...... It may be a disease, though. What is the definition of "disease"? It is an abnormal condition that impairs bodily functions with accompanying symptoms (after Wikipedia). Or here is another definition: An alteration of the state of the body or parts of it interrupting normal function (mine after ThinkExist.com). These are broad definitions.
